Park Academy: Bee Monitoring Workshop (multi-part event)
Bee
March 20, 2010 - April 30, 2010
Noon - 3 pm
Audience: Volunteers
Location: Presidio of San Francisco
Event Type: Class/Workshop
Volunteer Type: Field Workshop

What's a digger bee? How often do bees visit native plants? We're looking for a dedicated team of bee watching enthusiasts who are interested in piloting a bee monitoring study on the Presidio. We will observe pollinators at select sites on the Presidio and monitor visitation rates of bees on native plants. Your involvement will add to the knowledge base about bee-plant interactions and contribute to the development of a public artwork that will be installed at the Native Plant Nursery in May.

Bee monitors are required to attend training on Saturday, March 20th from noon-3pm. Field visits to research sites on the Presidio will be required four times in April once a week on sunny, warm days. Observers must be able to sit and watch bees consecutively for 3 minutes at a time for an hour.

Please note: Park Academy classes are meant as a special perk for volunteers and employees. If you do not work for the Park or have not volunteered with us in the past year, bringing a donation (sliding scale of $1 to $10) to the class is strongly encouraged.
