If you’re looking for additional activities to use during your CAP visit, check out these kits! They’re a fun way for you to engage with your group, learn about the Presidio, and develop your leadership skills.
Campfire
Suggested grade level: K–12
Gather around the fire for an enchanting evening of song and stories. Sing and dance to dun tunes that celebrate community and diversity. Afterward, huddle together for exciting legends about humanity, animals, and spirits.
Team Building
Suggested grade level: K–12
There is no “I” in team! Spark some creativity and boost morale in your group through this hands-on resource kit that will challenge and encourage your teamwork skills. Included in the kit is a full activity guide, which includes ice breakers, readiness games, and cooperative challenges that will test your group’s ability to effectively communicate and collaborate. You’ll also find a goody bag of materials to help you in your fun filled activities.
Plant Detectives
Suggested grade level: 2–12
Learn about the Presidio’s native plants and their ecological significance for people and animals in the Bay Area. Things you’ll learn include: the plant’s medicinal uses and the ecosystems they grow in. Did someone say Sherlock Holmes? With this kit you’ll be using a real magnifying glass and identification cards to track down and get to know a variety of native plants.
Way finding
Suggested grade level: 4–12
Get your bearings in your national park. Test your compass navigation skills in one of the safest outdoor environments in San Francisco, the Presidio! Your group will be able to explore while developing their survival skills. This kit includes instructions on how to use a compass, actual compasses, and two way finding routes!
Footsteps and Memories
Suggested grade level: 4–7
This resource kit takes you on a walk along the historic Anza Trail and investigates the impact of Spanish colonialism on the indigenous peoples of California. Included in this kit is a leader guide, booklets for your group to follow along the trail, and suggested activities to enhance your trail experience. Some activities include: trust walks, story-telling, and imaginative play.
Leave No Trace PEAK Pack
Suggested grade level: 2–12
The PEAK (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) program is based on the seven principles of “Leave No Trace,” like BE CAREFUL WITH FIRE, KEEP WILDLIFE WILD, and LEAVE IT AS YOU FIND IT. This kit includes six fun activities designed to teach kids about the responsibility that comes with enjoying the outdoors and how to take care of the environment for future generations. How to Reserve
- Each camp group may reserve up to TWO Self-Guide Activity Boxes.
- Activity Boxes are not led by CAP staff. All boxes were designed to be easily led by certified CAP leaders.
