Planting Trees for Mekong Giants

In Cambodia, wildlife and people depend on a unique and fragile freshwater ecosystem.  The flooded forests surrounding the Tonle Sap Lake support a bewildering array of animals. Yet the lake’s fishery is collapsing. This would lead to the loss of one of the most productive fisheries in the world, with devastating effects on Cambodia’s poor. David Emmett will present the work CI is doing to maintain this ecosystem for the people and wildlife that rely on it. Register for this lecture >

FRESH WATER: THE ESSENCE OF LIFE
Christina Mittermeier, Executive Director, International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP)
Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Cristina Mittermeier

Imagining the river basins of the future, what do we want from our rivers, lakes and wetlands? What are our priorities for organizing and managing the tapestry of forests, farming, towns and cities that give river basins their character, and shape the goods and services we receive from them? How can we make sure there is freshwater security for both people and nature?  Cristina Mittermeier, Executive Director of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP) and co-author of the new book, Fresh Water: The essence of life, will discuss the power of photography to focus the public eye on these critical questions. Register for this lecture >

This lecture will take place at the Crissy Field Center Gathering Room, 1199 East Beach, Presidio, San Francisco, CA.
