PARK STEWARDSHIP RESTORATION SITES

Our high priority work sites range thoughout all three counties in Golden Gate National Parks. Our programs provide a great way to get involved in the park and meet new people. Activities include non-native plant removal, seed collection, planting and monitoring. Click on an image below to learn more about these restoration sites.

Marin County

Dias Ridge
Part of a larger effort to revitalize the Redwood Creek watershed, the improved Dias Ridge Trail has re-opened to the public after extensive restoration work on the trail itself and surrounding natural areas.

Muir Beach
The site had been the most disturbed part of the Redwood Creek Watershed. Today, thanks to a landscape-level restoration project and thousands of volunteer hours, this area is coming back to life.

Oakwood Valley and Alta Avenue
This site supports the largest stand of oak and bay forest in the park. The surrounding ridgeline, known as Alta Avenue, supports a population of the endgared Mission Blue Butterfly.
Wolfback Ridge
Located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, Wolfback Ridge's grasslands and lupine population supports a colony of endangered Mission blue butterflies.

San Francisco County

Lands End
Volunteers have planted over 100,000 native plants, removed millions of invasive species, and beautified the trails of Lands End for the enjoyment of the public and wildlife alike.

 Presidio Bluffs
This wild and rugged site is just minutes from city life, and yet it's home for a remnant native ecosystem that includes various rare plants.

San Mateo County

Milagra Ridge
This 240-acre parcel located in Pacifica is an old Nike missile site with a striking view of the Pacific Ocean. Milagra Ridge is a habitat "island" with breathtaking coastal views and a surprising array of plants and wildlife.

Mori Point
This Pacifica site contains 110 beautiful acres of coastal scrub, grassland and riparian plant communities. Quarrying and off-road vehicles left this site heavily scarred, but with the help of thousands of volunteers, the site is being restored.
