BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL AT THE PRESIDIO

Bay Area Ridge Trail
Project Description

The Bay Area Ridge Trail is a 550-mile planned multi-use trail around San Francisco Bay. To date, 310 miles of the trail have been completed—including the Presidio leg which links the park’s highest points, from Arguello Gate to the Golden Gate Bridge.

The trail is one of four regional trails crossing the Presidio. Upgrade of this major trail thoroughfare will be implemented in several phases. The first phase, completed in 2005-2006, established a new segment of trail between the Cemetery Overlook and Compton Road. The recently completed second phase provides an accessible connection between Rob Hill Campground and the Pacific Overlook and Coastal Trail.

Key Contributors

This project was made possible by a generous challenge grant from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, donors to Presidio Trails and Overlooks, and the members of the Parks Conservancy. Our deep gratitude goes to all who help support work in the Presidio.
