FORT MASON BAY TRAIL
The Fort Mason segment of the Bay Trail (aka "the Squeeze") at the
corner of Laguna and Bay in San Francisco, was once infamous for its
awkward and unsafe layout. This project addressed these issues to
enhance visitor safety and experience, improve pedestrian and bicyclist
traffic flow, and restore landscape vegetation.
Completed Site Improvements
- Relocated light pole and consolidated it with signal light for safer
pedestrian and bicycle passage.
- Installed safer, more sustainable railing separating pedestrian
traffic from vehicular traffic at the edge of the curb.
- Expanded sidewalk/trail at the northeast corner of Bay and Laguna
streets by six feet.
- Installed new park interpretive kiosk with information about the
Fort Mason Historic District.
- Planted native trailside vegetation.
- Replaced the dilapidated fence at the entrance to the historic MUNI
tunnel.
