PARK TRAIL
Project Description
Completed in May 2010, the Park Trail extends 1.7 miles from the 14th
Avenue Gate to Crissy Field, providing a north-south trail corridor
through the middle of the park. It meanders through the historic forest
and the Presidio Golf Course, providing links to several major trails
and scenic destinations along the way. The newest section of the Park
Trail is 0.6 mile long and connects the Presidio Promenade to the Bay Area Ridge Trail, and is accessible to visitors with disabilities.
Through specialized construction, a stabilized shale/rock trail
departs from the road and carefully winds through the historic forest,
providing visitors with a more enjoyable and accessible trail
experience.
This trail project also achieved a major additional accessibility
milestone at the Presidio, leveraging and expanding the accessibility of
other trail corridors, including the Presidio Promenade and Battery
East Trail.
Key Contributors
This project was made possible by a generous challenge grant from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, donors to Presidio Trails and Overlooks, federal funding, and the members of the Parks Conservancy. Our deep gratitude goes to all who help support work in the Presidio.
