PRESIDIO PROMENADE
Project Description
The 2.1-mile Presidio Promenade is a major east-west trail connecting
visitors from the park’s urban edge at the Lombard Gate to the Golden
Gate Bridge. The multi-use trail and associated in-road bike lanes
travel along the plateau above Crissy Field, passing by some of the
Presidio’s most historic areas: Letterman Hospital (now the Thoreau
Center for Sustainability), the Main Post, National Cemetery, Cavalry
Stables, and Battery East.
A large portion of the trail has been completed and construction
began on the final segment in the fall of 2009. The final segment
extends from the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Crissy Field
Avenue, connecting to the recently completed Crissy Field Overlook and Bay
Trail at Battery East. From there, the Bay Trail and Promenade
share the same alignment as they wind through the historic batteries
en-route to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Key Contributors
This project was made possible by a generous challenge grant from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, donors to Presidio Trails and Overlooks, Trails Forever, and the members of the Parks Conservancy. Our deep gratitude goes to all who help support work in the Presidio.
