RODEO VALLEY TRAIL
Rodeo Valley winds through the heart of the Marin Headlands, and is
edged by grassy, wind-swept hillsides where no native tree could
possibly put down roots (though a few imported cypress and eucalyptus
cluster around the valley’s buildings and landmarks). The valley and
lagoon offer habitats for birds, butterflies, and bobcats, and features
miles of backcountry and coastal trails.
Improvements and rehabilitation work to the Rodeo Valley Trail and
corridor begin July 2011. Planned improvements will provide a key
multi-use trail link in the Marin Headlands, allowing bicycles and
pedestrians to easily access the Marin Headlands from Fort Baker and
Sausalito. Project actions will also restore adjacent wetland habitat.
Phase Two work will be completed in 2012.
Phase One Actions
- Realign the Rodeo Valley Trail to create a multi-use connection between Rodeo Beach and the Baker-Barry Tunnel
- Restore
former trail alignments to natural conditions
- Reconstruct existing
segments of the Rodeo Valley Trail
- Design and construct two
bridge structures at two new locations
- Repair impacted project areas in preparation for additional
restoration and revegetation
Project work will require the temporary closure of a section of the Rodeo Valley Trail in October, 2011. See the project flyer and map for more information. You can also visit the Project Headlands website to learn more.
