The springs of Mt. Tam have a rich history, providing early drinking water sources for both indigenous and western cultures alike. But these systems are fragile and have been declining in the western United States due to development and climate change. One Tam has been studying springs of Mt. Tam for the last two years as they represent a keystone habitat: we found that springs represent only 0.002% of the land on Mt. Tam but are home to 10% of the native terrestrial plant species!

Join Jake Kurzweil, One Tam’s lead researcher of springs on Mt. Tam, for a hike through the history and ecology of Mt. Tam Springs. This hike will be difficult but beautiful---  covering approximately 6 miles of terrain and 1,000 feet of ascent and descent. The legnth of the program is dependent on the group, but is roughly estimated to take approximately four hours.

Meeting location: Rock Spring parking lot  at the intersection of Pan Toll road and Ridgecrest blvd (google map).

Please bring sturdy hiking shoes, layers, two bottles of water, hat, sunblock and a bag lunch. Regsitration is required. If registration is full and you would like to be added to the waitlist, or for any questions, contact Monica Stafford at mstafford@onetam.org
