We Players has collaborated with the Art in the Parks Program for years, bringing performances to several National Parks sites. From 2009 to 2011 We Players participated in an artistic residency on Alcatraz. Isolation, justice, the fate of the inmates, and redemption were concepts We Players connected to the narratives told in their shows. These works included Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Ellen McLaughlin’s modern adaptation of Iphigenia and Other Daughters, as well as a culminating symposium. The performance group also discovered an elegant mixture of San Francisco history and Shakespearean works in Macbeth at Fort Point in 2008 and again in 2013. The setting of the former military site was perfect for the cackling witches and the vengeful King of Scotland.

These performances and exhibitions were presented through the partnership of the National Parks Service, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and Headlands Center for the Arts.
