Docents lead tours through the gardens for up to an hour and engage visitors at designated stops. As a docent, you will learn the history of Alcatraz’s historic gardens and effectively convey the stories of past residents and the role gardens played in their lives, as well as information on current projects and garden plants. - Must be able to commit to leading tours twice a month, including some weekends, for a minimum of one year.
- Must have the physical ability to lead tours around the island, which includes taking visitors up and down a steep set of stairs and able to engage visitors at designated locations.
- Complete training. Training is provided by the National Park Service. You’ll learn and practice the skills necessary to lead successful tours.
