Get an insider’s view of the Presidio Tunnel Tops project, which will create 14 acres of parkland above the Presidio Parkway (Doyle Drive) tunnels. Join us for a tour of the site connecting the Main Post to Crissy Field. We will discuss many aspects of this project, including a youth campus/learning landscape and community plaza, and preview the brand-new Presidio Visitor Center.


Rodeo Beach to Batteries

Join ranger emeritus and historian John Martini for a hike from Rodeo Beach up the Coastal Trail to the restored Battery Townsley. We’ll focus on the history of the fortifications, especially the dark months after Pearl Harbor when soldiers manned Battery Townsley round-the-clock in anticipation of invasion.


Evening Bird Hike

Learn about and listen for owls, as we take an easy evening walk on the trails of the Marin Headlands. With any luck, we'll see some elusive nighttime birds, and we'll also look out for other species that become more active at night. (Parking will be available at Marin Headlands Visitor center. No dogs. Bring a light, binoculars (optional), and comfortable walking shoes.)


Lincoln Park’s Lost Cemetery Walk

Few people realize that today’s Lincoln Park Golf Course was once “City Cemetery,” the final resting place for tens of thousands of San Francisco's dead, including a sprawling paupers’ graveyard called Potter’s Field. Join historian and retired ranger John Martini on this twilight exploration of the former cemetery, including visits to forgotten funerary monuments along the golf course fairways.

Bring the Kids! Crissy Field Evening Walk and Campfire

Join Crissy Field Center’s Community Programs team for an easy, family-friendly interpretive walk around the Crissy Field Marsh to explore this amazing restored habitat. Learn about the animals that call the marsh their home, as well as how the Ohlone used many of the native plants for food and healing. The walk will be followed by a campfire with ranger-led stories, songs, and s’mores! This program is designed to be fun and engaging for families with children ages 3–10.


A Visit With Rosie the Riveter

Come explore our sister national park in Richmond, Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park! We’ll explore the exhibits and watch a movie, then hike the Bay Trail to the Rosie Memorial. A park ranger will explain how people during WWII came together for a greater cause. The park has wonderful picnic spots along the water, so bring a lunch!

The Legend and Legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers

Join Park Ranger Frederik Penn for a tour of the Presidio Main Post and Cemetery, highlighting the history and legacy of the famed Buffalo Soldiers. Along the way, we’ll explore the reasons why they became some of the very first “park rangers,” the constant moral dilemma these soldiers faced, and the inspiration behind Bob Marley’s famous song about them.
