Collaboration Skills for Environmental Leaders
The Institute at the Golden Gate partnered with the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution (ECR) to offer a highly interactive, scenario based training opportunity for environmental leaders. The three-day course on cross-sector collaboration attracted leaders from the National Park Service, Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, Ashoka Conservation Foundation, Environmental Defense Fund, and others.

The National Park Institute Executive Leadership Seminar: Leading Strategic Change
The first ever National Parks Institute occurred from April 27 – May 7, 2010 and returned for its second year in April 2011. Twenty-seven park and protected areas leaders from around the world convened for an eleven-day intensive management seminar on leadership, innovation, and organizational renewal.

Ocean Conservancy Marine Debris Meeting
Millions of debris items contribute to the deterioration of ocean ecosystems and harm humans, wildlife, and coastal economies. In December 2010, Ocean Conservancy met at Fort Baker to plan the future of how to keep the ocean free of trash. For 25 years Ocean Conservancy has led the International Coastal Cleanup, the world’s largest volunteer effort to remove and track trash found on the world’s beaches, rivers, and ocean waters. The data collected at the cleanups have resulted in national and international laws that help keep trash out of the ocean and inspires companies to produce new packaging that protects ocean life.

Breast Cancer & The Environment Research Centers: Sixth Annual Early Environmental Exposures Meeting
The Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Centers (BCERC) network is conducting epidemiologic and biologic studies investigating the influence of early environmental exposures on pubertal maturation and mammary gland development and the potential of these developmental changes to alter the risk of breast cancer in later life.

Re-Imagining California: A Sustainable Future for the Golden State
In the spring of 2009, WELL Network convened three Fort Baker Leadership Summits to produce “Re-Imagining California, A Sustainable Future For The Golden State.” The report contains the recommendations of leading business and nonprofit executives, policymakers, scientists, academics, and program managers that took part in the Fort Baker Leadership Summits at the Institute for the Golden Gate.

The summits focused a range of thinking on how California can ensure a strong economy and healthy environment for an increasingly diverse population.
