A StoryWalk is a creative way for children and their families to enjoy the park on a family-friendly, accessible trail while reading an adventure at the same time. Pages of a children’s book are put on signs and placed along the trail. Walk along the trail and read the story, step-by-step and page-by-page!

The National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy have partnered with Yosemite Conservancy to bring a third StoryWalk to the park!

Our third StoryWalk features Where’s Rodney?, written by Carmen Bogan, illustrated by Floyd Cooper, and published by Yosemite Conservancy. Where’s Rodney? will be in the Marin Headlands through February 2018.

Recently awarded one of the Best Picture Books of 2017 by Kirkus Reviews, this book features stunning illustrations that reflect the winding trails, towering hilltops, epic vistas, and quiet valleys of the Headlands.

Join Rodney on his outdoor adventure, while getting to know your own national park!

How do I find the StoryWalk?

Drive: Look for Where’s Rodney? in Gerbode Valley along Smith Trail and Rodeo Valley Trail, just a 20-minute drive from San Francisco.

Enter the parking lot off Bunker Road at Smith Road. The trailhead and first StoryWalk panel are at the end of the parking lot near the restroom.

Public Transit: The trailhead is also within walking distance from a 76x Muni bus stop in the Marin Headlands, which runs weekends and holidays. Get off at the Bunker Rd/Stables stop and enter the trail (across the street from the horse stables) and head toward the Smith Trail trailhead.

This StoryWalk is about one-third of a mile long and takes about 25 minutes to walk and read. The trail is accessible and flat.

About Where’s Rodney?

Rodney is a kid who just can’t sit still. He's inside, but he wants to be outside. Outside is where Rodney always wants to be. Between school and home, there is a park. He knows all about that park. It’s that triangle-shaped place with the yellow grass and two benches where grown-ups sit around all day. Besides, his momma said to stay away from that park.

When Rodney finally gets a chance to go to a real park, with plenty of room to run and climb and shout, and to just be himself, he will never be the same.
