VISIT HAWK HILL

As of Monday August 15th, our hawkwatch and banding seasons have begun! Unfortunately, the fog has hampered hawkwatching for most of this week, but once the sky clears our hawkwatch volunteers will be counting passing raptors from Hawk Hill daily. Come visit, and check out our free docent programs on weekend days in September and October!

Upper Conzelman Road and Hawk Hill are open to the public. Conzelman Road is open up to Hawk Hill, though the one-way portion beyond Hawk Hill parking is still closed for construction. Please see the Project Headlands website for more information.

Directions to Hawk Hill

From the south, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take the second exit Alexander Avenue. Get in the left lane following signs that read “101 San Francisco.” Turn left at the stop sign and cross under the freeway. Turn right onto Conzelman Road and drive 1.8 miles to Hawk Hill. Park alongside the road at the top of the hill, just before the road becomes one way. Walk up the west side of Hawk Hill past the locked gate. It's just a few hundred feet to the summit.

From the north, after going through the Waldo Tunnel, take the last Sausalito exit to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (the signs read Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Sausalito). Be careful—it is a short exit ramp with a stop sign at the bottom. Stay to the left. Turn left at the stop sign then make an immediate right up the hill onto Conzelman Road. Stay on Conzelman Road for 1.8 miles. Park alongside the road at the top of the hill, just before the road becomes one way. Walk up the west side of Hawk Hill past the locked gate. It's just a few hundred feet to the summit.

Marin Headlands Weather

Fall migration weather in the Marin Headlands is quite variable and can change within minutes. When the fog rolls in and it can get quite cold. If the fog pulls back it can be very warm.

If you are going to Hawk Hill, be sure to layer your clothing, bring lots of water and a lunch and enjoy the view of hawks as well as the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.
