Park Stewardship at Lands End
At just over 100 acres (including city property), Lands End is a an oasis within the city, providing rugged scenery and dramatic cliffside views, wind-swept sand dunes and historical clues about our city’s earliest inhabitants. Over the past four years, volunteers from both the local community and from around the world have planted over 100,000 native plants, removed millions of invasive species, and beautified the trails of Lands End for the enjoyment of the public and wildlife alike.
More than twelve acres of Lands End have been converted into ideal habitat for one of the largest and most diverse populations of birds in the bay area. The combination of many unique coastal habitats existing in harmony with the historic forest stands has produced a myriad of habitat niches. Volunteers work side by side with hunting Red-tail hawks, soaring brown pelicans, and the song of the many species of sparrow that migrate through Lands End each year.
