PRESIDIO COASTAL TRAIL
The California Coastal Trail runs for three miles through the Presidio, traveling primarily along the coastal bluffs that support some of the most intact natural habitat in the park. The trail provides access to several batteries that are scattered along the bluffs, from the Golden Gate to the north to Battery Chamberlin at Baker Beach to the south.
Phase One Actions
This summer the National Park Service, Presidio Trust, and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy will begin improvements to the Presidio Coastal Trail corridor and Lincoln Boulevard.
Work includes:
- Bike lane installation along Lincoln Boulevard between Merchant Road and Washington Boulevard
- Construction of the Golden Gate and Pacific overlooks
- Reforestation of Monterey cypress trees as part of the historic forest management program
- The creation of a new, multi-use trail that runs adjacent to Lincoln Boulevard
- Invasive tree removal throughout the coastal bluffs, as well as cape ivy removal and management
- Native plant landscape restoration
These improvements require temporary trail, road, and parking lot closures throughout the area.
Surface improvements and the installation of in-road bike lanes along Lincoln Blvd beginning the week of August 29 through November will require intermittent delays. Lincoln Boulevard will remain open, but conditions will vary.
We are asking that bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists take caution during the construction period.
