“Art makes life better.” – Charles Unser

The Art Explorers is a nonprofit organization located in Fort Bragg, California. The program serves artists with developmental disabilities and provides as an art studio, with materials and instruction in a small gallery space where artists can exhibit and sell their work.

Charles Unser has been a participant of Art Explorers for twelve years, often exploring historical themes with a particular interest in American gangs of the 20th Century. He has created ten portraits of famous Alcatraz prisoners with colored pencils on wooden panels, offering a unique artists and visual window into the lives of some of the most feared individuals to have been imprisoned on the Island.
