Staff and volunteers doing stewardship work in Muir Woods.

Registration for this event is now closed.

Come February 3rd, to welcome migrating salmon back to their home stream in Muir Woods by volunteering with us. Experience the majesty of redwoods while restoring habitat, cleaning the boardwalk, and rehabbing trails. All projects will contribute toward a recently completed stream restoration project benefiting endangered salmon habitat.

Project Details:

  • Revegetation Projects: Help heal the forest after restoration! Volunteers will assist with planting native plants in three locations to help revegetate along the trails and creek banks. Volunteers will also work to decompact soil and add duff along the beautiful Muir Woods trails. Expect low to moderate levels of exertion and wear clothes that can get dirty.
  • Deck Flossing: Help prolong the life of the Muir Woods Boardwalk! Volunteers will remove dirt, duff, and debris from between the spaces of the redwood deck boards, a process known as "deck flossing"! This is a fun family-friendly volunteer project, volunteers ages 8 and up are welcome.

All projects will range from 0.5 - 2 miles of walking, sometimes off-trail, and involve using small hand tools. Training and tools will be provided.
