In 1776, Juan Bautista de Anza led a diverse group of families to establish the Presidio, Spain's northernmost colony in Alta California.  Thus began San Francisco!  To hear more of the story, meet National Park Service volunteer Walter Coe at his drop-in interpretive session in the Presidio Visitor Center.  No reservations required.
