ID BASICS

Size: length 23 inches; wingspan 53 inches; Redtail size 

Key Field Marks: usually white belly, chest and coverts; whitish undertail; bulky “bowling-pin”-shaped body

  • Adult: dark “V” of red legs

Flight: long-winged with slight dihedral; soaring, gliding, strong flapping, low foraging flight
