Botany Series: Plant Families in the Field (Miwok Loop)

Stretch your legs and get out your hand lens!

Spend the spring morning exploring Tennessee Valley and portion of the Miwok Trail ona botanical oriented hike  examining several plant families and genera. We observed between 46 and 66 families in the field on last years hikes and many more genera and species! We will largely be exposed to the elements and can expect a range of weather, foggy to misty wet, windy or dry and warm- dress appropriately. Bring water, snacks and or lunch. Hike is moderate to strenuous. Trails are dirt fire road or single track and mixed use, accompanying bikes or dogs in sections. While this trail provides opportunity to see early blooms; we will be visiting coastal prairie grassland and chaparral examining seeds, fruits, and ferns as well. Feel free to bring field guides and floras alike. Hike will be close to 4 miles roundtrip; meet at Tennessee Valley, on Tennessee Valley Rd.
