This two hour hike focuses on the World War II history of Fort Cronkhite, including wartime invasion scares, soldier life at the fort, and a visit to the labyrinthine interior of Battery Townsley. The walk begins at Rodeo Beach parking lot and heads uphill to Battery Townsley. Following a tour of the battery, the route continues along Old Bunker Road to the barracks cantonment of Fort Cronkhite and a return to the parking lot.” Distance: 2 miles. Paved surfaces. Semi-strenuous, with a ¾ mile stretch of uphill hiking.
