Looking to support native ecosystems in your area? Seeking creativity outdoors? In need of Queer & Trans community joy? It's wildflower season–and what better way to celebrate the blooms, bees, and butterflies returning from their winter hiatus than to come outside and join them with your own colorful bloom!
Join Queer and Trans community and staff to revel in all that our Bay Area ecosystem has to offer. Surround yourself with a rainbow of blooming CA Poppies, Yorkia, Lupine, Gilia, Tidy Tips, Goldfields, Nemophila, Collinsia, and more! Support CA wildflowers and pollinator habitat, while learning how to bring native blooms to your own neighborhood. Celebrate and capture the Spring season artistically through cyanotype printing with staff on site–CA Native plants are ART! Please feel welcome to wear your normal gardening clothes OR dress up in your most colorful fits to match the wildflower blooms. This will be our 5th event in our Belong in Nature: Queer & Trans Community Day series, and we hope to keep going & growing. New and returning participants are encouraged to join!
Accessibility: This program will be held outdoors. Please note that much of the gardens are on hillsides or accessed by stairs, and much of the work involves bending or kneeling. If you would like to join us but are unable to work on this type of terrain, need language support, or if you have any other access needs, please reach out to our volunteer team so we can best support you for the day.
We'll be working rain or shine. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. Bring layers for changing weather and rain gear if necessary.
Bring a personal water bottle and sunscreen.
No experience necessary. Training and tools will be provided. Fulfills community service requirements.
