What is a bioblitz, and what is a biobliss?

A BioBlitz is an event where participants use the app iNaturalist to record as many species as possible within a designated location and time period. We’re calling our event a bioBLISS because we want to find what's interesting and intriguing to you in the natural world.  And that means taking our time to observe and wonder about what's in front of us. This event is grounded in curiosity, a sense of wonder, and the joy of tuning into nature with all our senses.

We’ll look for birds, mammals, wildflowers, reptiles, butterflies, beetles, mushrooms—all the nature that catches our eyes! People of all ages and all skill levels (especially beginners!) are welcome. You bring your curiosity, a smart phone with the iNaturalist app installed (and/or a digital camera), and tons of enthusiasm. We’ll be joined by local naturalists and others who know the area and the local species that call it home. Together we’ll learn about the flora, fauna, and maybe even fungi (?) at El Polin Spring and contribute to science!

We’ll show you how to observe and record your observations using iNaturalist, and binoculars and hand lenses will be provided. We will meet at the El Polin Spring Trailhead, learn how to observe and record our observations, head out to explore in groups, then come back to share our findings.  You are more than welcome to bring your lunch to have with us after the event.

Registration is required for this event via the Bay Nature website.
