RESCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 13TH
In this 90 minute webinar we’ll explore the interwoven histories of Fort Mason (once called Black Point) and its sheltered neighbor, Aquatic Park. Highlights include the early “squatter” mansions built during the Gold Rush, Civil War fortifications, World War II troop embarkation piers, a 1906 refugee camp and 1915 World’s Fair pavilions. The Aquatic Park story covers its evolution from a Spanish anchorage to a polluted industrial backwater, and its 1930s conversion to a “people’s palace” anchored by the wonderful art deco Casino, now the Maritime Museum.
