Size: length 30-40 inches; wingspan 80-88 inches; vulture size +

Key Field Marks: huge brown bird with golden nape; tail 2-3 times head length (compare to Bald Eagle); juvenile/sub-adult: white patches only in center of wings and base of tail (never white on belly)

Flight: very long, flat wings, rarely flaps; soars with wings held flat or in dihedral; often associated with Turkey Vulture kettles
