Hosted in the Red Power on Alcatraz: Perspective 50 Years Later exhibit, this event will highlight the 30 foot long tule reed boat created in partnership with local tribal community. This 2019 exhibit commemorates the 1969 Native Occupation of Alcatraz, a fight for Indigenous sovereignty.

Come learn about tule plant and its cultural significance to the Ohlone people. Tule boats are the original watercraft that the Ohlone used to navigate to Alcatraz Island and around the bay waterways.

We will be hosting various panel discussions in collaboration with local community members, screen a short animated film, and host a DIY mini tule boat demonstration.

Buy your tickets via Alcatraz City Cruises. Recommended ferry rides for this program are: 8:40 and 9:20 AM.
