GGRO Research Overview

Tracking raptors

The Golden Gate Raptor Observatory (GGRO)coordinates volunteer scientists to monitor and track the autumn raptor migration over the Marin Headlands. Raptors encountered at the GGRO provide an invaluable opportunity to further our understanding of raptor ecology, physiology and conservation status. This was broadly recognized at the founding of GGRO and it was why a long-term raptor monitoring program was established. Through collaborative opportunities, we look to explore:

  1. Population status and trends.

  2. The ability to better define the populations that migrate through the Golden Gate.

  3. Raptor health and the effects of stressors at both individual and population levels.

  4. Basic ecology.
