Parks as Vital Resources

Stand Up for National Parks

Parks are more than just places—they’re where we connect with nature, find peace, and build community. With new federal actions creating uncertainty for the National Park Service and the Presidio Trust, we remain committed to protecting these cherished landscapes. Since 1981, the Parks Conservancy has worked alongside the NPS and the Presidio Trust to enhance and preserve these special places through education, community programs, and fundraising—including for Presidio Tunnel Tops. Now more than ever, we must stand together to keep our parks thriving. Let’s protect them for future generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy has been the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, and since 1994, a partner of the Presidio Trust, working to protect and enhance the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). Spanning 82,000 acres across San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties, these parks—including Alcatraz, Muir Woods, and the Presidio—are more than just scenic places. They’re where communities gather, recharge, and connect with nature and history. The Parks Conservancy helps keep them thriving through youth programs, visitor education, and philanthropic support—like fundraising for the Presidio Tunnel Tops. Alongside our federal partners, we’re dedicated to ensuring these parks remain open, accessible, and protected for generations to come.

The National Park Service’s current budget is funded under a Continuing Resolution that expires on March 14. If a budget deal isn’t reached for the remainder of the fiscal year, we’ll work closely with our partners to prepare for a potential government shutdown. Stay tuned for updates.

Guided by our vision of Parks for All Forever, we are committed to making these public lands welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for everyone, now and for future generations. As one of the most visited national park sites, GGNRA offers something for everyone, from quiet hikes to inspiring cultural landmarks, ensuring that parks continue to inspire, heal, and bring people together.
