Gardening

Join us to celebrate 5 years of the Black Point Historic Gardens being open to the public after 50 years of abandonment behind fences.

As a garden docent, you would welcome visitors into the gardens, share the stories of those who created and tended the gardens, and share the garden preservation work that was done.

Discover the beauty and history of Black Point Historic Gardens at Fort Mason with Natalie Korengold, the Parks Conservancy's Program Manager for Alcatraz and Black Point Gardens. Informational tour will be followed by a volunteer activity in the gardens.

Join us for the start of our nursery class series and delve into how the nurseries grow the thousands of plants for the parks restoration and stewardship sites. This class will be led by Alisa Shor (Director of Park Nurseries) and Brian Hildibidle (Supervisory Natural Resources Management Specialist).

Our Nursery Series continues with a discussion with our pros on how to prepare for the growing season! This class is designed for our nursery and field interns, but anyone interested in how our Park nurseries operate is welcome!

Why do plants have so many names? Join National Park Service intern Carmen Chan as you look high and low to search for various plants around the Presidio.

Join Shelagh Fritz, project manager, to learn about the preservation process and history of the beautiful Alcatraz Gardens!
