A gift of $25 million from the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy will lead the way for park enhancements at the very heart of the Presidio.

America’s most infamous island to serve as site and inspiration for new sculpture, multimedia, and sound works exploring individual and creative freedom.

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy has submitted supplemental materials to the Presidio Trust Board of Directors, elaborating on the programming opportunities and public appeal of the Presidio Exchange.

Part scientific endeavor, part outdoor classroom excursion and part celebration of biodiversity and the spirit of exploration, BioBlitz 2014 will bring together 300 leading scientists and naturalists from around the country, more than 2,000 students, and thousands of Bay Area community members.

Four major land managing public agencies and a Bay Area conservation nonprofit have reached a landmark agreement to work together to steward the long-term preservation and restoration of Marin County’s beloved Mount Tamalpais. 

Opening September 27, 2014, @Large: Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz will feature a series of seven site-specific installations by artist Ai Weiwei in four locations on Alcatraz Island, offering a new cultural lens through which to experience the notorious military and federal penitentiary turned national park.

Featuring seven new sculpture, sound, and mixed media works by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, @Large: Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz explores human rights and freedom of expression in the context of this iconic historic site.

To help maintain the long-term health and preservation of Mount Tamalpais (Mt. Tam), the Tamalpais Lands Collaborative (TLC), has launched OneTam, an initiative to raise awareness and build community support around efforts to care for the mountain’s treasured resources.

Once completed in 2018, the new New Presidio Parklands Project will offer visitors an unparalleled experience of the Golden Gate.

The new Battery East Vista features a picnic area with seating, bicycle parking, interpretive signage, improved wayfinding information, a revamped parking area, and enhanced visitor connections to two breathtaking trails in the Presidio.
