Habitat Restoration

Four major land managing public agencies and a Bay Area conservation nonprofit have reached a landmark agreement to work together to steward the long-term preservation and restoration of Marin County’s beloved Mount Tamalpais. 

The spectacular coastal promontory of Mori Point, one of the newest sites in the Golden Gate National Parks, will host a celebration on April 26, 10 am to 1 pm, honoring the ongoing trail work and habitat restoration.

The Redwood Creek Restoration at Muir Beach is beginning an initial phase of work that will restore natural function to the creek and wetland system at this well known Marin County visitor destination.

Lands End— historic place of steam trains, recreation, and scenic beauty—will unveil its newly rehabilitated Merrie Way overlook, trailhead, and parking area to the public on Saturday, October 18, 2008.

The Redwood Creek Restoration Project at Muir Beach will continue this summer and fall, making the creek a functional, self-sustaining ecosystem once again by realigning the creek; restoring wetlands, an intermittent tidal lagoon, and dunes; and also creating and maintaining habitat for sustainable populations of the endangered coho salmon and threatened steelhead trout.

The Seed and Plant Lab features high-efficiency heating and refrigeration systems and provides an ideal space for processing, storing, and treating over 300 batches of seeds used to grow plants for park restoration projects.
