The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service and the Presidio Trust, hosts a number of community group programs geared toward youth. Programs celebrate the natural and cultural wonders of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and can be customized to meet the needs of your group.

Location: Crissy Field Center

The Presidio has been inhabited for over 10,000 years. Investigate how the Ohlone, Spanish, Mexican, and American residents of the Presidio impacted and influenced the landscape we now call a national park-and experience the legacies they have left behind.

Cultural Encounters
Travel back to 1776 and learn about the difficulties the inhabitants of this area faced. Explore the challenges Spanish settlers encountered and examine the hardships the Ohlone people experienced living in the Presidio.

Growing your Roots: Juana Briones 
Discover how Juana Briones and others used indigenous plants in Presidio for food, medicine, and tools. Identify the indigenous plants that have grown in the Presidio for thousands of years!

Buffalo Soldiers 
Uncover hidden stories of how these brave African-American triumphed during a time of segregation and extreme racism, and explore their intimate connections with America’s national parks.

Availability: Programs are offered Tuesday through Saturday. Each visit is approximately 1–1.5 hours long.

Making sense of the world around you! Experience the Crissy Field Marsh and surrounding areas.

Watershed Through Time
In this interactive program, survey watersheds in San Francisco and examine the dynamics of how the environment and the community play a critical role in shaping each other.

Teens on Trails is a program for young people who enjoy spending time outdoors. They’re introduced to local area national parks and other Bay Area teens through volunteer activities. 
 

Since 1998, the community has transformed this former military site into a beloved 100-acre parkland. Discover the history of Crissy Field in this engaging introduction to your national park.
