2012 marks a decade of Trails Forever—a tremendously successful initiative to improve trails and habitats across the Golden Gate National Parks. Take a walk down memory lane and check out images capturing our favorite Trails Forever moments.

With the pressures of the holidays upon us (and the stress of everything else that’s going on in the world), parks can be a great place to escape, re-center, and refocus. Here are some of the most peaceful spots in the Golden Gate National Parks.

Hello!  My name is Samuel Peña and I am super thrilled to be joining the Park Stewardship San Mateo team.  

Ditch the summer fog for the sunny peaks of our Golden Gate National Parks in Marin County. Have some fun in the sun on this eight-mile hike and finish it off with a frothy pint at the local English inn!

To commemorate Volunteer Appreciation Day at Golden Gate, multimedia intern Lauren Gee made a video about why volunteers choose to donate their time in the parks. Lauren noticed one thing in common with everyone she interviewed: Undeniable joy as they opened up to her about their volunteer experiences.

Although the wildflowers are numerous and diverse in a super bloom, there are still reasons to not step on or pick your local wildflowers. (As a reminder, it is illegal to pick or collect plants in national forests, parks, and monuments without a permit!)

Throughout the year, we enjoy expressing our gratitude to our volunteers who help steward our national parks every week, bringing their stories and a piece of their lives to our programs. We are grateful for our volunteers who have a passion for the outdoors and for spending their time with us. We’re excited to announce our Volunteer of the Season: Bob Devor!

Beginning fall 2020, park wildlife biologists will use temporary remote tracking collars to learn about the population size and movements of coyotes in the Marin Headlands.

Robert Lipscomb, a Black man from Cleveland, Ohio, grew up during the Great Depression and, after a traumatic and destabilizing childhood, eventually ended up in the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary where he agitated for social change. 

Why not take a walk in the parks? There's a lot to see out there.
