Want to inspire K-12th students to tackle environmental and social justice issues? Want to engage students to recognize the value of diverse perspectives and challenge the dominant narrative? Fascinated by the geology at your feet? Are you curious to know more about the magic of the ancient redwood forest? The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) is now looking for Education Volunteers!

As a Science Education Volunteer with the National Park Service, you will: 

  • Facilitate field programs with other park staff and interns  
  • Help create lessons and field activities for outdoor programs

Committments to enroll as a volunteer: 

  • Attend virtual orientation on September 30, 2023, from 10:30-11:30am 
  • Attend 4 hour in person training on October 7, 2023 (Timing and location TBA) 
  • Attend site orientation in October 2023 
  • Shadow 1 education program in October/November 2023 

*Please reserve your spot for orientation by Wednesday, September 20, 2023, spots are limited. 

Qualifications:  

  • Preferred commitment from October 7- December 21 and January 8 – May 31 
  • 1 day a week required (more days welcomed): 4–7-hour shifts on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays  

Locations, Grades, Subjects

  • Muir Woods National Monument: K-5th grade science-based programs 
  • Marin Headlands: 4th & 6-8th grade science-based programs and high school history-based programs  
  • Presidio of San Francisco’s Crissy Field Area: 1st & 6th grade science-based programs
