Hawkwatch and banding are on and we can’t wait to begin a new season of documenting the annual migration of thousands of birds of prey! While we normally welcome visitors during the season, Hawk Hill's summit will be closed to the public this fall due to the Hawk Hill Visitor Improvement Project. Through storytelling and inspirational programs like the Formerly Incarcerated Speaker Series, the Parks Conservancy and National Park Service are helping 1.4 million annual Alcatraz visitors reflect on justice, mass incarceration, and the human experience at this vital national park site. 

Thanks to a collaboration between staff from the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and National Park Service, used coffee grounds from every cup sold at the Warming Hut are helping nourish native plants nearby. 

This winter we welcome the rainy season, as it typically allows for a rich diversity of various fungi and lichen species to emerge. Take this opportunity to check out the different varieties of species thriving in our San Mateo park sites! You might just take a lichen to what you see. 

Hello!  My name is Samuel Peña and I am super thrilled to be joining the Park Stewardship San Mateo team.  

One of the San Francisco Bay Area’s rarest species is getting a new lease on life through a special headstart program, while the Parks Conservancy and our partners work to improve habitat so this endangered species can thrive.

If you take a walk along the Coastal Bluffs in the Presidio and stop just south of the Langdon Court parking lot, across from the battered bunkers and under the pine trees, you’ll find a plant that often goes unnoticed.

The recent onslaught of rain has wreaked havoc on trail drainage throughout the Bay Area, and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy partners at the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) and One Tam are always open to more helping hands during these stormy months!
