Stretching across the hills and shorelines of San Francisco and Marin, the forests of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) provide shade, habitat, and a living connection between communities and nature. These woodlands are more than just a scenic escape, they are a vital part of the Bay Area's ecology and history.

Time among the trees offers more than beauty, it’s deeply restorative. Studies show that forests can ease stress, lift mood, sharpen focus, and even benefit heart and immune health. Simply walking beneath leafy canopies, an experience often called "forest bathing," can calm the nervous system and bring a sense of clarity and peace.

To keep these forests healthy for generations, the Parks Conservancy and our One Tam partners work to study, preserve, and protect woodlands across the region; often with the help of community scientists who contribute valuable data. When you become a Parks Conservancy member, you play a direct role in supporting this important work.
