With hundreds of miles of trails threading through 37 distinct sites across 80,000 acres of the Golden Gate National Parks, it can be hard to decide where to go and what to do. Let the Parks Conservancy’s experts be your guide! We’ve carefully curated our favorite hikes, walks, and excursions to share with you and your loved ones. There’s something (and some place) for everyone! We reveal some of the natural wonders and historical highlights you’ll experience along the way, but there are plenty more surprises for you to discover. Redwood Creek Trail
Difficulty Level: Easiest
Trail Length: 2.03 miles round trip

From the visitor center, begin this trail through a valley of old-growth coast redwoods. This will be an outing like no other, due to the incredible trees that line this trail. If you need, there are plenty of benches to sit back and look up from.

Redwood Creek Watershed Hike

Skip the crowds at Muir Woods, and explore the Redwood Creek watershed from Mount Tamalpais State Park. Begin the hike at the north end of the Mountain Home Inn parking lot and head down Camp Alice Eastwood fire road.

Trail Length: 1.43 miles round trip

This short and simple trail is often overlooked, despite being a wonderful access trail that is sometimes utilized by cyclists coming out of the Tennessee Valley.

Trail Length: 3.50 miles round trip

If you find yourself in San Francisco and restless at the end of the day, consider the Presidio's portion of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, the planned 550-mile trail through the hills around the Bay.

From: Arguello Gate

To: the Golden Gate Bridge and back

Explore the charm, seclusion, natural wonders, and historic and cultural variety of the Presidio. Stunning views await you on this short trip through forests and grasslands and along coastal bluffs, from the Presidio's south-central entrance to its northwest tip and back.

Rodeo Avenue Trail

Trail Length: 1.39 miles round trip

The Rodeo Avenue Trail begins with a series of switchbacks. It seems that every time you come around one of these turns you are looking at a different forest.

This is another escape hatch into the wild beauty of Rancho Corral de Tierra. Park on Etheldore Street, and make your way up Ranch Road. Keep your eyes peeled for the trailhead to your left. Then begin your exploration in earnest, bearing northeast.

Difficulty Level: Easiest
Trail Length: 4.02 miles round trip

A hike along the SCA Trail will provide a breathless vista of the Golden Gate Bridge and the surrounding Bay. When the sun is shining and the fog is lifted, hiking along this trail will make memories that will last a lifetime.

Self-Guided Hike: Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Crissy Field

Once a disheveled collection of worn military buildings and neglected rubbly asphalt, Crissy Field was restored to its marshy beginning, while paying homage to the military history prevalent here since 1776. Click here for the hiking route.

Enjoy the lush green hills and wildflowers of Spring on this fun one-way hike to Stinson Beach, with a Marin Stagecoach bus ride back. You can find a detailed map here.

Marvel at the beauty of the Marin Headlands on this moderate hike! There isn't any shade for the duration of the hike, so make sure to wear a hat and sunscreen. Print out the map or download on your phone as service is not reliable.
